IRVINGTON, N.Y. – Two Irvington High School seniors have been named National Merit Scholarship finalists, the school district announced Tuesday night.

Suyash Bhatt and Monica Driscoll will now compete for a National Merit Scholarship.

“We're certainly proud of their accomplishments and we wish them luck,” Superintendent Kristopher Harrison said during Tuesday's board of education meeting.

Approximately 15,000 students throughout the United States are named National Merit Scholarship finalists each year after taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT.

Finalists compete for one of 8,300 scholarships offered in the spring. About half of all finalists will receive a scholarship.
