In Photos: Westchester Libraries Celebrate Black History

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Writers and residents gathered at Abigail Kirsch's Tappan Hill in Tarrytown last week to kick off Black History Month with the Westchester Library System.

The annual African-American Literary Celebration celebrates those who have been inspired by Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy.

This year's literary tea featured author and Bloomberg BusinessWeek editor Diane Brady, who spoke about her book “Fraternity.” The book follows five young black men recruited by a mentor at the College of Holy Cross in 1968.

“The story of “Fraternity” and the work of our honoree, Dr. Perkins, echoes a core value of WLS to open doors of opportunity through access to information resources and technology,” Terry L. Kirchner, executive director said. “The resources throughout our library system serve to support all those seeking knowledge and inspiration, regardless of cultural or economic background.”
