MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. Angela and Richard Kessel, co-chairs of the Northern Westchester Hospital Annual Benefit, are touting this years event as a shining moment for the community.
The gala, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Saw Mill Club in Mount Kisco, will support the Hospitals efforts to build new operating rooms and a post anesthesia care unit.
Angela Kessel began her affiliation with NWH five years ago as a volunteer. She eventually became more involved and was elected as a member of the NWH Foundation board. From that point, Kessel took a more active role in the Hospital's growth.
Over the past few years, the Hospital has made investments in new technology, and according to Kessel, attracted top rate surgeons who do a high volume of complex surgeries. To better align its facilities with those innovations, the Hospital has embarked on a major initiative that includes building a new state-of-the-art surgical facility. In addition, the Hospital also just completed construction on a state-of-the-art emergency department.
The Hospital is our most critical community asset, she said. It is important to keep it strong and vibrant.
This years event will honor Marian Hamilton, founder of the Ken Hamilton Caregivers Center, and Dr. Roger Riechers.
Kessel, who is Houlihan Lawrence Realtys top seller in Northern Westchester, believes she has her career to thank as one of the reasons she was chosen to chair the gala.
Being a realtor, I have touched a lot of people in the community. Im able to get the word out about this years event and the amazing things happening at the hospital, she said.
The Kessels started as weekend residents in Bedford more than two decades ago. They eventually settled in town to raise their two daughters, who attended Rippowam Cisqua School and The Hackley School in Tarrytown.
Richard Kessel, an executive with Morgan Stanley, is also involved in the Hospitals activities. He has been a strong supporter of Northern Westchester Hospital, she said.
Angela Kessel said she still takes an active role in her childrens lives, participating in school events and programs. Their daughters, who are now 20 and 22, attend Harvard and Georgetown Universities.
Although the Hospitals revenue covers the cost of providing the highest-quality medical care, Kessel said it depends on financial support from the community for capital improvements.
The Benefit, which Kessel said always sells out, is considered the premier community event of the year. It is a tremendous night filled with people doing good for the hospital, she said.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. with cocktails, followed by dinner at 7:30 and a nightclub and lounge at 9.
