White Plains Hospital Keeps County Moving At Annual Health Fair

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Monitoring your cholesterol? Suffering from seasonal allergies? Planning on scheduling a full-body checkup, but haven't made the time? White Plains Hospital is helping keep Westchester County residents healthy without a visit to the doctor's office, thanks to the hospital's 40th annual Neighborhood Health Fair later this month.

White Plains Hospital's annual Neighborhood Health Fair will help area residents ensure they're in top shape, thanks to a variety of free health screenings.

As part of White Plains Hospital's outreach program, adults in the community can take advantage of a range of health screenings, free of charge. Testing and information will be available for diabetes, high blood pressure, vascular disease, breast and prostate cancers, as well as HIV testing, stroke prevention, dental exams and more.

“I encourage community members to take advantage of this unique opportunity to receive free screenings and disease education that is crucial to a healthy lifestyle,” said Dr. Kathryn Siao, co-director of the Hospitalist Program at White Plains Hospital and medical director of the Neighborhood Health Fair.

Lab testing will also be available for cholesterol and sickle cell disease, and Spanish and French Creole-speaking staff from White Plains Hospital Family Health Center (FHC) will provide disease education and answer health-related questions. The FHC is a division of the Hospital that provides both adult and pediatric primary and specialty care services, including internal medicine, pediatrics, muscular dystrophy and podiatry to underserved members of the community.

The Health Fair is the collaboration between the hospital, El Centro Hispano, Inc., Calvary Baptist Church and the Thomas H. Slater Center. Over the last 10 years, the fair has served nearly 5,000 individuals through preventative, routine and specialized medical care.

The Neighborhood Health Fair will be on Saturday, April 29 at the Thomas H. Slater Center in White Plains from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free to all and open to the public. Children’s activities, a bike raffle and refreshments will be provided.
