SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- While October is best known for pumpkin picking and beautiful fall foliage, it's also synonymous with breast cancer awareness. Breast care requires a multi-faceted treatment plan. To meet this need, the Minimally Invasive Center of Hudson Valley Surgical Group offers every patient a full range of services to treat both the physical and emotional hurdles that come with a breast cancer diagnosis. "The first step we take is a full evaluation and risk-assessment catered to each patient," said Dr. Har Chi Lau, a surgeon at Hudson Valley Surgical Group. "The evaluation will include genetic tests to identify high-risk issues and will help determine a custom approach to each patient."

Women diagnosed with breast cancer face a tough decision. While new studies suggest less invasive treatment for early-stage breast cancer may provide better outcomes, the experts at HVSG take the time to counsel their patients on the best decision for them. "It's very important that our patients feel comfortable before, during and after the procedure," said Lau. "It's our goal to talk with our patients and come up with a game plan that everybody feels good about."

Hudson Valley Surgical will also determine the best post-surgical plan with an eye to avoiding unnecessary radiation or chemotherapy. HVSG's surgeons understand that after a procedure, most patients wish to limit scarring and quickly return to their normal lives. To help do so, the group's doctors are trained in the latest minimally invasive tools and techniques and use leading-edge technology to ensure the best possible treatment.

The HVSG Breast Care Specialists offer an educational approach to the detection and treatment of breast cancer and breast disease. Led by Westchester's top radiologists, oncologists and counselors, the team will discuss all options and devise a unique, individualized plan. "From early detection procedures to diagnosis and treatment schedules, our staff ensures that all patients are well-informed and part of the decision-making towards recovery," said Lau.
