Westchester Parks Help Residents Explore The Outdoors

WESTCHESTER, N.Y. -- Parks across Westchester County are taking advantage of the summer weather by hosting a range of outdoor activities aimed at showing residents the region's natural beauty. 

The fourth annual Firefly Festival will be held at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation on July 19.

The following events are being held throughout the county in July:

  • Fourth Annual Firefly Festival, Friday, July 19, Trailside Nature Museum at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Cross River. 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

An ice cream social and an evening to learn about and admire these magnificent insects. Bring a chair or blanket. Co-sponsored by Friends of Trailside.

  • Big Band on the Boardwalk, Friday, July 19, Playland Park, Playland Parkway, Rye. 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The Milt Gerver Orchestra and vocalists perform. Fireworks display choreographed to music. Parking fees apply. Also held on July 24, 31 and Aug. 7 

  • Art Show, Saturday and Sunday, July 18 and 19, Muscoot Farm, Route 100, Somers. Noon to 4 p.m.

View works by artist Paul Kmiotek in the Main House Gallery on weekends during July.

  • Farmers Market, Sunday, July 19, Muscoot Farm, Route 100, Somers. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Shop more than 20 unique vendors offering fresh produce, cheese and a variety of local items.

  • Hispanic Heritage Festival, Sunday, July 19, Kensico Dam Plaza, Valhalla. Noon to 6 p.m.

Live music and entertainment, dance, arts and crafts, food and more.
