TARRYTOWN, N.Y. — The Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow (TaSH) Farmers Market, a DVlicious 2016 winner for "Best Farmers Market," was named to Westchester Magazine’s “Best of Westchester” list for 2017.

The special recognition was awarded in the category of “Best Revamped Farmers Market” — a nod to the transformation and rise in popularity of the TaSH Farmers Market over the past three years.

Launched in 2015, the market was created by a group of local community members who not only sought to increase and improve the farmers market, but also to expand educational opportunities for the community around local food, nutrition and sustainability.

The group formed Rivertowns Village Green, (RVG) Inc., a 501(c)3 organization, whose mission is dedicated to improving access to fresh, locally produced, high-quality food for the full socioeconomic spectrum of the community. RVG operates the TaSH.

Two hallmarks of the TaSH’s “revamped” market focus are around its local food ethos and commitment to education. Market rules include guidelines that all goods at the market are grown or produced within 100 miles of Tarrytown or Sleepy Hollow or within New York State and board members regularly visit farms and vendors as part of their vetting process for vending at the market. This transparency is required as part of the market’s thorough application process.

On the educational front, the market has dedicated new resources each season to expanding activities and programs for adults and children on cooking, nutrition and the environment. Last year, the TaSH launched “TaSH Talks," informative panel discussions and Q&As on relevant topics.

New this season is an educational kids’ program called “What’s in Season," an experiential taste, see, and discover booth open every Saturday at the market from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
