'Mom-preneur' Organizing Rivertowns Strollerderby Fund-raiser

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Lindsay Sanii gives new meaning to the term "stay-at-home mom" – by almost never being at home because she is helping moms of all shapes and sizes meet their health and fitness goals while on the run with her own young daughter.

Sanii, a childhood ballerina, former Equinox trainer, Crossfit aficionado and new mom, recently started She-Mom Fitness designing group workouts and individualized fitness programming for busy moms with babies and tots in tow.

Sanii's latest venture takes motherhood and fitness to another level in her Rivertowns Strollerderby 5K Race that encourages moms and dads to "keep pushing after baby," scheduled for Sept. 21.  The Rivertown Strollerderby will help to raise money for the national non-profit, Family-to-Family. The donated funds will be earmarked to help disadvantaged mothers in Westchester County focus on their health and fitness goals through an exercise and running programming that allows moms to work out with their children.

"I knew I would dive back into my fitness regimen immediately after the birth of my daughter, however, I didn't anticipate including her in my routine. I thought I'd just drop her off at gym childcare, get my hour in and voila! But the reality is, I'm not comfortable leaving my baby with anyone right now, so we're improvising here, and she's turned out to be an excellent workout buddy."

Sanii said the premise of the Strollerderby event is to get families moving together, not just on race day, but before and after.

She averages about 12 stroller-running miles per week as part of her StrollHER to the Finish project - a run/blog challenge to run 12 races in 12 months while training and racing with her daughter in her stroller.

"Right now I alternate between the Aqueduct trail (between Hastings, Dobbs, and Yonkers), and running along Broadway from Hastings to Dobbs and back. I also frequent the track at Reynold's Field and occasionally commute to Manhattan to get the best running experience. That's probably my daughter's favorite. She loves the vibrancy of the city, as do I."

Sanii is inviting local businesses and corporate sponsors for the Strollerderby.

"I'm excited to share that my absolute favorite healthy snack, Caveman Cookies is sponsoring the event and owner, Stephanie Lester, is a local Rivertowner, operating out of Dobbs Ferry," she said. "I'm also excited to share that our very own Rivertown Mamas will be leading a pre-run yoga stretch and a post-run yoga class at the finish line fitness festival."
