The website's list of 25 Highest Paying Companies was compiled by analyzing each company's median total compensation, which includes base salary as well as commissions, bones, tips, etc... . The data analyzed for the ranking came directly from the salary reports at companies in which employees have "anonymously and voluntarily shared both their base pay and other forms of compensation," according to Glassdoor.
Some information provided by Glassdoor is not surprising. Each company on the list maintains an average base salary in the six figures with the lowest offering, on average, no less than $123,000 annually. The list also is dominated by technology companies, which hold 20 of the Top 25 spots.
What may surprise, however, is the ranking of widely known companies such as Facebook, which despite its popularity in the media, ranked just 12th on the list with an average base salary of $127,000 and average total compensation of $150,000.
Another company on the list that many may find surprising is Walmart eCommerce. While the Walmart brand often gets a bad wrap for offering what some perceive as inadequate compensation at its brick and mortar stores, the retailer's Walmart Global eCommerce division offers a median base salary of $126,000 and an average total compensation of $149,000.
