Harrison Prepares For Fourth Of July Fireworks

HARRISON, N.Y. - A fireworks celebration will happen Wednesday night at the Oakland Avenue Field in Harrison to honor the Fourth of July.

Resident Roy Aletti has put on the show for more than 30 years both "officially" and "unofficially." This year, like the past two Independence Day celebrations, is sponsored by businesses in Harrison since the town once again cannot afford to pay for it.

"Let's face it, everyone loves this country and what better way to celebrate than with fireworks," Aletti said. "All the business owners gave what they could and we sincerely appreciate it. Money has been tighter than usual because the economy has gotten progressively worse but everyone has kept in the spirit of the holiday and is ready to go to the big event."

Even though the economy is not doing well, Aletti said he didn't want to see the fireworks celebration canceled because of it. Aletti said his favorite part of the show is lighting the actual fireworks but the most important aspect of it is the celebration of America.

"If you are American, it is something for you to enjoy," Aletti said. "Even in these hard times, there is a lot to be thankful for. We are celebrating our own lives because part of this country is our lives."

A live band will kick-off the festivities at 8:30 p.m. The fireworks show will follow at 9:30 p.m. For more information, call Aletti at Harrison Paint Supply at (914) 835-0830.
