SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – The farm animals at Phillipsburg Manor have found a new home.
The historic site's sheep, lambs, oxen and chickens have been relocated to farm sanctuaries to reduce costs by about $200,000.
“It’s just not financially feasible to maintain farm animals on- site,” Historic Hudson Valley spokesperson Rob Schweitzer told The Journal News. “It’s not as simple as taking care of a cat or a dog. There’s a lot involved.”
Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow residents expressed shock on the 10591 Facebook page.
Animals will be present at the site's festivals, such as the Sheep-to-Shawl Festival in April.
