Third Annual Jewish Cultural Festival Coming To Tarrytown

IRVINGTON, NY -- The third Annual Jewish Cultural Festival of the Rivertowns, presented by the JCC on the Hudson, will take over the Rivertowns April 19 through May 1.

“This year’s festival will take participants from the Irvington Town Theater to Lyndhurst,” said Rabbi Lisa Izes, festival coordinator along with Lois Green. “There are ten events, which can be purchased separately or with a $100 festival pass. There’s something for everyone.”

The Jewish Cultural Festival Committee includes Rita Joselow and Esther Mildner, of Ardsley; Robin Rosenberg, of Dobbs Ferry; Gloria Falk, Donna Fleming and Gail Mendell, of Hartsdale; Denise Rosenberg, of Hastings; and Melissa Baer and Rita Wexler, of Tarrytown. 

Some of the events include:

"The Yellow Ticket," a silent film will be presented with live musical accompaniment by Alicia Svigals and pianist Marilyn Lerner at 4 p.m. April 19; $18 for adults, $10 for college students at www.irvingtontheater.com. At the door, cost is $21 for adults, $13 for students. The event will be at Irvington Town Hall Theater, 85 Main St.

"In Words and Music: The Story of the Yiddish Theater," works by contributers to Yiddish Theater, will be presented by Diana Cypkin and pianist Lena Panfilova at 10:30 a.m. April 20. The cost is $5. The event will be at JCC on the Hudson, 371 South Broadway, Tarrytown.

"From Shtetl to Swing: A Documentary Film," part of the Jewish Cultural Festival of the Rivertowns, will be at 1 p.m. April 23. The event costs $5 and will be at the JCC on the Hudson, 371 South Broadway, Tarrytwon.

Comedian and author of "The 188th Crybaby Brigade: A Skinny Jewish Kid from Chicago Fights Hezbollah," Joel Chasnoff will be featured at 7:30 p.m. April 29. The event costs $10 and will be at the Temple Beth Abraham, 25 Leroy Ave., Tarrytown. To register, visit www.jcconthehudson.org.

The Tot Shabbat will be a celebration of Shabbat with music, movement and more with Rabbi Lisa Izes. The event is for kids up to age 7 and their families. The event, which costs $15 per family, is from 4-4:45 p.m. May 1 and will be at the JCC on the Hudson, 371 South Broadway, Tarrytown.
