Project Lifesaver International is a rapid response rescue program designed to locate adults and children who have gone missing due to Alzheimers, autism, Down syndrome, dementia and other related disorders.

Participants are fitted with a lightweight wristband transmitter with its own unique frequency.

BCSO Officers Thomas Braney, Krzysztof Wojtylo, Sean Walker, James Buckley and Vincent Surace responded to the 7:14 p.m. call.

Working with East Rutherford police, they hit the streets.

Just after 8 p.m., they found him — safe and sound — outside a Garfield service station.

“The officers involved in this incident quickly coordinated the search effort, utilized the technology and rescued a senior citizen in danger,” Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino said. “Congratulations to all the officers and the entire Project Lifesaver team.”
