TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Hundreds of individuals and families brought warmth and renewed hope by participating in the Nov. 2 Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley’s 9th Annual Walk and 5K Run for Wishes presented by Trusted Choice Independent Insurance Agents on Sunday.
The event was at Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park in Yorktown Heights.
Their support resulted in raising more than $85,000, which will be used to help grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions and enrich their lives with hope, strength and joy.
As in past Walk & 5K Run Wishes, awards were presented to recognize standout fundraising accomplishments. The following individuals and teams won awards:
- Joe Capobianco of White Plains won the Top Individual Fundraiser Award by raising $8,100.
- Keep Calm and Wish On! of Westchester won the Top Team Award by raising $5,451.11.
- Tommy’s Team of Yorktown Heights came in second with $4,125.
The winners in the 5K Run and their times were: Male Age Group (18 and under)
1st – Matthew Ferrante of Wilton, age 10 2nd – Jack Hembury of Carmel, age 12 3rd – Ethan Anthony of Scarsdale, age 8
Male Age Group (19-99) 1st – Todd Dias of Brewster 2nd – Eric Gonzalez of Sloatsburg 3rd – Dennis O’Brien of White Plains
Female Age Group (18 and Under) 1st – Charlotte Rose of Scarsdale
2nd – Jamila Douglas of Scarsdale 3rd – Maya Bogner of Chappaqua
Female Age Group (19-99) 1st – Melissa Dimarino of Yorktown Heights 2nd – Jeannette Baldassarre of New Rochelle 3rd – Halley Rogers of Wappingers Falls
The next significant Make-A-Wish® Hudson Valley fundraiser will be the fourth annual ‘Yoga For Wishes’ benefit from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 23 at The Garrison.
Participants will be asked to solicit donations from family and friends before the event to support their participation.
These efforts will culminate in a three-hour yoga experience, taught by two yoga masters — Neva Goldstein and Lela Damico of Cortlandt Manor. The class is appropriate for all levels.
