TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Westchester County’s newest farmers market will open in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow on Saturday, May 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"The TaSH,” is the new farmers market that straddles the Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow border in scenic Patriots Park. The Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow Farmers Market will be host to culinary powerhouses such as Blooming Hills Farm, which has grown organic produce for top chefs Mario Batali, Tom Colicchio and Michael Romano. Blooming Hill will stock four stalls at The TaSH, with vegetables grown in the fertile Black Dirt region of Orange County in New York.
At the same time, the market will be host to local growers, such as Deb Taft of Mobius Fields, who grows her seedlings in the greenhouses of the historic Lyndhurst Mansion in Tarrytown. The market will also host farmers of organic meat, fishermen who pull their catch from Long Island Sound and cheesemakers crafting their artisan wheels from animals pastured in the fertile Hudson Valley.
The market will have breads baked from locally milled grain, pizza grilled in a mobile wood-fired oven, an international array of prepared foods and many more vendors who will help make The TaSH a local and regional destination. Coinciding with Memorial Day weekend, opening day will offer a slice of Americana, with opening ceremonies headlined by the Sleepy Hollow High School band and the local mayors on hand. The day will include children’s activities, live music by Andrea & the Armenian Rug Riders and a chef demonstration by Mrs. Green’s Natural Market resident chef David Kiser.
The TaSH Farmers Market is run by a non-profit, volunteer citizens group, Rivertowns Village Green, Inc., formed in 2013 for the sole purpose of creating and running a destination farmers market and community gathering place.
