Hugh Masekela, known from his hit “Grazing in the Grass,” will perform in Tarrytown on April 17 at 8 p.m. in a Jazz Forum Arts-sponsored event.
“Masekela has been a global legend since the ‘60s and has earned broad appeal among jazz enthusiasts worldwide, and we expect a large turnout for our concert,” Mark Morganelli, Executive Director of Jazz Forum Arts, said. “We’re honored that he’ll be making his Tarrytown Music Hall debut in April, and thrilled to bring exciting performances like this to Westchester.”
Masekela will perform with his six-piece band, percussionist Francis Manneh Edward Fuster, bassist Abednigo Sibongiseni Zulu, keyboardist Randal Skippers, drummer Lee-Roy Sauls and guitarist Cameron John Ward, to support his new recording, “Playing @ Work.”
Masekela was nominated for a Grammy in 1968 for “Grazing in the Grass” and for his “Jabulani” album in 2012. He also played with Paul Simon during his tour for Simon's “Graceland” album.
The legendary trumpeter, flugelhornist and vocalist received The Order of Ikhamanga from South African President Jacob Zuma in April 2010.
