The first race will begin at 11:45 a.m. with six races every half hour. The winners of each of the six races will compete in the final race for the grand prize of $1,500.

Hope Hose Fire Dept is a critical part of the success of the Rubber Duck derby, according to the Tarrytown Rotary Club. It designed and perfected a guillotine that holds back the water to make each race run swiftly down the stream, according to the Tarrytown Rotary Club.

The finish line is at the end of the stream, where competitors will find the Rotary “duck catchers,” whose job is to pluck out the winning duck. A special net was designed by the fire department at the end of the stream to keep the rubber ducks from getting through to ensure that no rubber ducks wind up in the Hudson River.

Attendees can take photos with the two costumed ducks that roam the park between races. The costumed ducks will be dumping the ducks over the stone bridge for each race.

The ducks are weighted to ensure that they stay upright and can find their way down the stream. Competitors can register and adopt their rubber ducks at www.tarrytownrotary.org.

Online purchases close down on Wednesday. Competitors will be able to purchase rubber ducks at the park during the event. Between races guests can enjoy the YMCA Healthy Kids Day with entertainment, food, carnival, games and vendors.

All money raised from the event will go back to the community in the form of scholarships and grants.
