Sleepy Hollow Gears Up For Halloween Festivities

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – Halloween is coming to Sleepy Hollow, and event organizers are keen to draw inspiration from Washington Irving's legend.

Village officials and local tourist hotspots will be offering traditional Halloween activities and Headless Horseman-related fare throughout October.

Tickets are on sale for the village's annual Haunted Hayride, which will take place from 7-11 p.m. nightly from Oct. 26-28. Residents can buy tickets on the village's website or at Village Hall for $20. Students in the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns can purchase discount tickets for $10 with their student ID. The village also will host a block party on Beekman Avenue from 5-11 p.m. Oct. 26-27.

Sleepy Hollow Cemetery will carve pumpkins from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.Oct. 30. A hayride and tours of the cemetery and Old Dutch Church also will take place.

Historic Hudson Valley is putting on several Halloween-themed events beginning Saturday.

Spooks and shocks await visitors to Philipsburg Manor's annual Horseman's Hollow, an 11-night event designed to scare the pants the off people aged 10 or above. Tickets are $20 and must be purchased in advance.

Storyteller Jonathan Kruk will once again perform “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” in the candlelit Old Dutch Church. Tickets must be bought in advance and are $16 for adults and $12 for children.

Several Tarrytown attractions also will host Halloween events. Historic Hudson Valley plans its annual Legend Celebration at Sunnyside in Tarrytown, which features storytellers, magicians and more as a prelude to evening events. Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors, $6 for children and free for kids under 3 as well as Historic Hudson Valley members.

Lyndhurst has planned special tours throughout October, with officials keeping the mansion open after dusk for special “Lyndhurst After Dark” tours beginning Thursday. Hourly tours with a Halloween-theme will take place during the day. Tickets are $25 for “Lyndhurst After Dark” tours and $18 for Halloween tours.
