Sleepy Hollow Fire Department To Host Third Annual Open House

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. - The Sleepy Hollow Fire Department will open its doors, pull out its trucks, emergency vehicles and apparatuses and welcome the community to the its Third Annual Open House between on Oct. 12 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

According to Chief Engineer William Ryan, the event will include a variety of demonstrations for adults and children in and in front of the Beekman Avenue fire house.

"We will be doing vehicle extrication, an interactive fire pit (the public can put on gear and assist in extinguishing the fire), Firefighter Bailout, K-9 demonstration, and stop drop and roll demonstration for children," Ryan said.

The Sleepy Hollow Fire Department consists of five fire companies, each operating an individual piece of fire apparatus, a marine unit, and a junior corps program. The fleet consists of three engines, one tower ladder, one rescue, two boats and three chief vehicles.

The department serves in fire suppression, vehicle extrication, surface water rescue, ice rescue, rapid intervention team and other emergencies.

Ryan said the event will kick off October's Fire Prevention Month.
