Sheep-To-Shawl Kicks Off Spring At Sleepy Hollow's Philipsburg Manor

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- The Sheep-to-Shawl Festival will kick off Historic Hudson Valley's spring season at Philipsburg Manor on Saturday and Sunday, April 16 and 17.

Visitors can explore each step in the process of turning wool into cloth using 18th-century techniques and participate in activities such as dyeing wool and weaving.

Scottish border collies will display their skills at sheep and duck herding. Children are welcome to try on reproduction 18th-century clothing for photo opportunities.

Historic Hudson Valley's own expert costume designer will offer critiques for a fashion show.

Master storytellers Jonathan Kruk (April 16) and April Armstrong (April 17) will share tales.

The Manor House will feature the exhibit "Wearable Wealth: The Value of Cloth and Clothing in the 18th Century."

Historic Hudson Valley experts will present talks and workshops focused on textile.

Geordane's will serve fresh food. The Blue Pig of Croton will serve locally sourced homemade ice cream.

The festival runs from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. both days.

Tickets are $16 for adults, $12 for seniors and $8 for children ages 3 to 17 if purchased online at www.hudsonvalley.org/events/sheep-shawl . Children younger than 3 are admitted for free.

On-site tickets will be $18 or $14 for seniors and $10 for children.

Philipsburg Manor is at 381 N. Broadway.
