Inspired by the Dutch settlers and enslaved Africans during colonial times, Pinkster is a festive celebration of the arrival of spring. Activities include African colonial dance by Judith Samuel and the Children of Dahomey and storytelling by April Armstrong. Renowned Ghanaian drummer Maxwell Kofi Donkor will lead demonstrations of African dance and drumming. Other performers include a roaming fiddler and player of the traditional West African kora.

Per tradition, two "Grand Events" will mark the celebration: the Pinkster Parade and the Game of Lies at 12:30 p.m. and the election of the Pinkster Regent at 3 p.m. African-American cuisine will be available for purchase from local caterer Niki Toi's Soul Food.

Online admission is $14 for adults; $12 for seniors; $8 for children 3-17; and free for children under 3 and Historic Hudson Valley members. Ticket prices are an additional $2 when purchased at the festival.

The festival takes place May 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Phillipsburg Manor on 381 N. Broadway. Discover Pinkster! is made possible by Con Edison.
