The screening is scheduled to start with an opening reception at 6 p.m. at Mercy Hall Rotunda. The film features Sister Theresa Kane, an associate professor of behavioral sciences at Mercy, according to a press release.
"The film tells the story of Catholic nuns and their work for social justice in the 1960s after Vatican II. Kane was one of the many nuns who worked for equality in the church," representatives said in the release. "Kane started out as a Sister of Mercy and quickly moved into various leadership positions in her congregation."
A Q&A session with Kane will follow the screening.
"In 1979, as head of The Leadership Conference of Women Religious, Kane publicly confronted Pope John Paul II during his visit to Washington, D.C. She spoke to him directly, in front of a large audience, about women’s roles in the church," representatives said in the release. "Kane specifically addressed the suffering of women who were denied equality and a voice in the church. Kane’s advocacy is prominently featured in the film."
