Procession Planned For Fallen Baltimore Firefighter Rodney Pitts III On Friday

The Baltimore County Police Department is cautioning motorists that there will be traffic disruptions on Friday as the fire department prepares for the funeral procession of firefighter Rodney Pitts, who died in the line of duty.

On Thursday, Oct. 19, Pitts was killed battling a massive blaze in Northwest Baltimore that also claimed the life of Lt. Dillon Rinaldo, who died days after the fast-moving fatal fire at an area hospital.

According to officials, the funeral procession is planned to begin at 8:45 a.m. from the funeral home to Cathedral of Mary Our Queen on North Charles Street in Baltimore, where a service is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 27.

The procession is scheduled to begin at the Duda Rock Funeral Home at 7922 Wise Blvd. before heading:

  • West on Wise Avenue to North Point Boulevard;
  • North on North Point Boulevard to Cove Road;
  • Northeast on Cove Road to I-695 Outer Loop;
  • West on I-695 Outer Loop to I-83;
  • South on I-83 to Exit 9a (West Cold Spring Lane);
  • East on West Cold Spring Lane to North Charles Street;
  • North on North Charles Street to the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen.

Following the funeral, the motorcade will then head to Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, going from the church and traveling:

  • North on North Charles Street to West Northern Parkway;
  • West on West Northern Parkway to I -83;
  • North on I-83 to I-695 Inner Loop;
  • East on I-695 Inner Loop to I-83;
  • North on I-83 to Exit 17 (Padonia Road);
  • East on Padonia Road to the cemetery in Timonium. 

Officials said that road closures can be expected in the area between Eastridge and Treherne between noon and 3 p.m. on Friday.

Days after his death, more than $73,000 of a stated $200,000 goal has been raised on behalf of Pitts' children and family through a GoFundMe campaign.
