Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers on patrol at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 2 found three men in an eight-foot raft in the water more than a mile off Sunken Meadow State Park, where they had launched from.

According to police, the men, all Brentwood residents, had been rowing against southwest winds and currents for two hours while being pushed farther away from shore.

The men had no cell phones or any means of signaling for help while the raft was in jeopardy of being swamped by waves.

All three men were taken aboard Marine Bravo by officers and returned to the shore. No injuries were reported.
