HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Have an idea you think would make a million dollars or help change the world?
The Purple Crayon in Hastings-on-Hudson will host its first-ever "PitchOn!" event, an innovative evening of song and crowd funding on Saturday, June 14 that invites "inventive geniuses" to the stage to sing karaoke and pitch their ideas for imaginative projects that are in need of sponsoring.
Five interns at The Purple Crayon came in on the first day of internships and proposed the nucleus of the "PitchOn" idea and Sarah Silbert Hinawi, the Purple Crayon’s Executive Director embraced the plan.
“We are working hard to see this amazing event come to life," Hinawi said. "As far as we know, there has never been an event created quite like this one and we hope to continue hosting this event in the future.”
The organizers promise an interactive and exhilarating evening that will offer "pitchers" 60 seconds to present their project idea to the audience members who will vote on whose project they believe should win. It is recommended that people pitching bring their friends and families to support their idea.
The winning pitch will receive the money raised by the event attendance and donated by sponsors.
According to an "invitation" from project organizer Naomi Greenspan, PitchOn! was founded on the core beliefs of The Purple Crayon -- to help young adults actualize their passions and potential.
"Not only will this event help develop interesting projects that might not have otherwise be funded, it will also inspire others to think of the possibility of new creative endeavors," Greenspan said.
The "PitchOn!" team reports that sponsors have donated more than $500 and some food for the event.
"We are also getting in some ideas for pitches that people have sent to us or mentioned in person, including funding an original music video, and sponsoring a community service trip," Greenspan said. "But we are open to many different ideas. Someone could, for example, use the money to record an original song or even start up a small business."
Pitchers should come ready to present their ideas to the Executive Director of The Purple Crayon and prepare their presentation to the audience. Pitchers may also send their ideas to email@example.com.
