“It’s always important for us to come together for any reason,” said Lisa Feinman, assistant executive director of the Jewish Community Center on the Hudson in Tarrytown. “It’s such a beautiful holiday to celebrate in such a public way. All the reason the more the merrier."

JCC on the Hudson will hold a free chanukia, or menorah-lighting ceremony, on its front lawn at 371 S. Broadway at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, which is the first day of Hanukkah.

“It’s one of the ways we pass our traditions on our children, but it’s also a way to share it with our neighbors and our parents,” said Feinman.

Chabad of the Rivertowns is sponsoring a series of events this Hanukkah.

“Our goal is to introduce the light and warmth of the Hanukkah lights to the entire community and to brighten the lives of individuals, families and children, not only in their homes, but also out in the open, in a fun and meaningful way,” said Rabbi Benjy Silverman, of Chabad of the Rivertowns.

Chabad of the Rivertowns’ events include:

Hanukkah Wonderland – 64 Main St., Irvington; the event will be held on Sundays from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday through Thursdays from 2-6 p.m., and Fridays from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. through Dec. 22.

Enjoy shopping for Judaica items, story time, cooking classes or stop by the Hanukkah craft station. Students can enjoy hot latkes between 3 and 4 p.m. Visit chabadrt.org for more information.

Hanukkah Village – Main Street in Irvington, Dec. 21 from 1-4 p.m.

Temple Beth Shalom, 740 N. Broadway, Hastings-on-Hudson, also will hold events for the holidays. The annual Hanukkah Cocktail Party will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and will preview the holiday book and craft fair.

The book and craft fair is the next day on Sunday, Dec. 14, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. offering books, local crafts and unique gifts for children and adults. A family singalong will be held that day from 2-3 p.m.
