Assembly time begins at 4:30 p.m.

The very first Downtown Halloween Parade occurred on a Sunday in October 2002 with only one marching band and two floats. The idea for a parade took root during the summer of 2002 when Village Trustee Susan Sincero approached Joe Arduino, the director of the village's Recreation Department. Together, they formed a parade committee comprised of interested residents and merchants.

This season, the Greater Sleepy Hollow Tarrytown Chamber of Commerce has been working with the Tarrytown Recreation Department to organize one of the biggest and best parades to date.

The parade will proceed south from Patriot’s Park on Routr 9 (Broadway) and turn right onto Main Street toward the YMCA. Bob Kimmel of The Hudson Independent will serve as the emcee for the parade. Following the parade, Main Street will be closed to accommodate the traditional block party.

Monetary prizes will be awarded to most creative, best costume, best float, best group, best volunteer band and best in show. In addition, the name of the winner of the “Best in Show” will be added to the Golden Jack-O-Lantern trophy.

Following the parade, a 30/30/30 raffle drawing is scheduled with proceeds shared by the Community Food Pantry and the parade.

There will be five marching bands, including the Marching Cobras, who have performed at the Super Bowl and the White House. Tarrytown aerialist Hilary Sweeney and Westchester Circus Arts will also entertain with circus performers and a magician.

Restaurants will set up on the sidewalks to allow spectators a place to enjoy a front row seat of the festivities while dining. Disc jockey Chris Vernia of “Double Image” will begin at 5 p.m. and perform throughout the parade. The live music band, “Andrea and the Armenian Rug Riders,” will take over the entertainment at 8 p.m. in time for the parade finale – the block party.

A rain date is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 26.

Float registration is due by Thursday, Oct. 23. To register as an individual, group or float, visit www.tarrytownhalloweenparade.com.
