Farmer 'TaSH Talk' Opens Tarrytown-Sleepy Hollow Farmers Market Season

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- The Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow TaSH farmers market opens for the season Memorial Day weekend.

TaSH Talk, a Q&A and panel discussion on farming, food production and other topics will run in tandem with the Sleepy Hollow TaSH Farmers Market set to open for the season.

The market got underway Thursday with "TaSH Talk," an educational series of panel discussions and Q&A with local farmers on a range of topics.

“Our local farmers are so incredibly full of knowledge,” said Angeline Montoya Powell, panel moderator.

“They look at the health of the soil, how it affects the health of the food, and ultimately, that impacts the health of our bodies. It’s all connected and the farmers bring that to life.”

Topics discussed included weather and soil conditions, shoppers’ willingness to expand purchase preferences, sustainability practices and myriad factors that impact how farmers price their food.

The TaSH Talk programs will be held monthly. Future topics center on composting, fermenting, the importance of bees, a rain barrel workshop, and a weed walk in the park.

The Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow (TaSH) Farmers Market opens Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 126 North Washington St., Tarrytown, N.Y.

There will be live music, kids' activities, crafts, among activities, along with an array of vendors.
