At the latest Port Chester Village Board of Trustees meeting, local officials unanimously approved an increase in both traffic fines and fees at parking meters, which may generate an estimate of nearly $500,000 in additional revenue.
Among the changes that were made, violators that park more than 12 inches from a curb, have an expired meter, are in limited time parking or commit other parking violations will see their fines raised to $35. Additionally, there will be a 25 percent increase at parking meters, from $1 to $1.25 per hour.
A complete breakdown of the changes can be read online. According to a lohud report, there are more than 3,000 on-street and parking lot spaces in Port Chester.
“Traffic and parking is commonly cited as a major quality of life issue in the village,” the Trustees stated. “In fact, issues of traffic and parking appear to represent the single-largest complaint that the village receives on a daily basis. The village is advantaged by strong and efficient parking enforcement through both uniformed police officers and parking enforcement officers.
“The Board finds that the schedule of fines is in need of upward adjustment so as to provide a greater incentive for compliance.”
