The Briarcliff-based SPCA will be holding its Annual Walkathon and Pet Fair on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event typically attracts thousands of animal lovers and their four legged friends.

Leading the dog walk is Red, who was found living in a small crate with his six siblings in his owner's garage. The owner was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.

Red had to have one of his front legs amputated, though after months of treatment, the SPCA said he is now thriving in his adopted home.

“I am so excited and proud to have Red, who is now called Trey, as our 2016 Walk-a-Thon Chairdog,” said SPCA of Westchester Executive Director Shannon Laukhuf. “Seeing the remarkable recovery this dog has made reminds us all that with a little hope, and a little help from our friends, we will continue to care for and protect the well-being of our companion animals.”

Tim Cassidy of News12 will be the annual ribbon cutter. Following the walk, there are games and activities for kids, live music, food, refreshments and dog-friendly activities for your canine friends to take part in.

The SPCA said they are hoping to raise $120,000 from the event, though there is some concern about the weather.

"Hopefully the cause is close enough to people's hearts that they can deal with some rain," Lisa Bonanno-Spence, assistant director of development, said. "It's a great family event. It should be a good time."

Bonanno-Spence said with all the different breeds of dogs walking around, it sometimes feels like a dog show.

A $20 donation for an individual or $35 for a family is required to take part in the walk.
