The debut has now been rescheduled for Sunday, May 15.

For the 42nd consecutive year, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each week, bicyclists, skaters, joggers, walkers and families will take over more than six miles of the Bronx River Parkway between White Plains and Yonkers, where they will be free to enjoy the area’s scenery while not driving 55 mph on the roadway.

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino joined members of the Wetschester Parks Foundation to formally kick off what was supposed to be the first “Bicycle Sunday” of the season at the County Center in White Plains prior to the planned Sunday, May 1 start date, the first Sunday to be rained out.

“Bicycles are something we all grew up with, something we can all ride and something we can all ride together,” he said. “People will have the opportunity to spend beautiful Sunday afternoons together in the tranquility of the Bronx River Parkway, something that should be experienced in person, not by car.”

To celebrate the first “Bicycle Sunday” of the season, one of the main sponsors, New York-Presbyterian, will host a block party of their own between Harney Road and Leeward Drive (exits 9 and 10) on the parkway, featuring raffles, prizes, ice cream and live music.

“The Bicycle Sundays program is consistent with our goal to help people adopt a healthy lifestyle through efforts like exercise,” New York-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital President Michael J. Fosina, said. “Whether it’s bicycling, skating or taking a stroll with your friends or family, the program offers something for everyone and is in close proximity to the NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital – located in the heart of Bronxville along the Bronx River Parkway. We couldn’t be more delighted to once again be partnering with the Westchester Parks Foundation for an event that is very unique to Westchester County and heralds the coming of summer for our neighbors.”
