The event is planned to be a day-long gathering for all that need information, education, tools and support for loved ones with Alzheimer's and early-stage dementia.

Dr. John Zeisel and Teepa Snow are two of the speakers at the conference. Zeisel advocates the use of positive engagement instead of drugs for those with dementia, and Snow is an occupational therapist who uses her humor to help in caregiving.

“We hear people (with Alzheimer’s) say, ‘I’m still here,’ and if you hear it, you start to have a relationship with them,” Zeisel says.

Alzheimer’s Association expert Dr. Keith Fargo will also update conference participants on new research and the latest clinical programs.

Some of the information and advice doled out will include how to live with dementia, coping with stress, grappling with the changes in family dynamics, dealing with legal issues and finances, keeping safe at your home and more.

The conference will run from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel in Tarrytown, 455 S. Broadway. Space is limited.
