Westchester Entrepreneur Invents System For Managing Kids' Screen Time

The best part? With screen, parents and caregivers can turn off all screen-based electronics, including phones/tablets, PCs, TVs and game consoles, from a mobile app that works both inside and outside the home, meaning one can shut down all devices from the office, the grocery store, or the treadmill.

The unprecedented technology, which took Orad, a software/hardware engineer over a year to produce, is a result of her own frustrations with her kids and their constant time in front of the flickering blue light. “We tried every parental control technology that existed,” she said. “Nothing worked for the entire house and outside our home, everything was very cumbersome to use, un-educational and sometimes limited the home internet access.

"Screen is the first all-in-one solution to help families moderate time in front of a screen and bring back face-to-face interactions, along with the most important social network – our family and friends.”

According to Common Sense Media, kids spend an average of six hours a day daily in front of their screens, excluding time for school and homework. For teens that number averages almost nine hours per day. Parents are also consumed with technology, and their attempts to teach children boundaries and reign in on usage often lead to endless friction and arguments. Screen’s mission, explained Orad, is to empower families to create a healthy relationship with the screens in their lives.
