New businesses popped up all over the village, from the former Stop & Shop space to shops on Main Street. Business owners had several reasons for moving to Tarrytown.
Pure Mountain Olive Oil co-owner Zak Cassady-Dorion said people walking by the shop have peeked in to welcome him to the neighborhood, which is one of the things he likes about Tarrytown.
“We wanted a place with a strong local community – a place where people really take their food seriously, and Tarrytown really fit in,” Cassady-Dorion said.
Owners made sure to bring unique ideas to their shops, such as used books, gourmet hot dogs or yogurt and crepes. Here are a few of the new businesses that put down roots in 2012:
- Crabtree's Kittle House announced it planned to open a second location in Tarrytown's Hudson Harbor development.
- Phelps Memorial Hospital launched its own farmers market.
- Village Dog brought its artisanal sausage to Main Street.
- Pure Mountain Olive Oil Co. encouraged customers to taste before buying.
- Kosmos Book Shop arrived just as Greenburgh's Barnes & Noble closed.
- Yogurt LeCrepe mixed two culinary favorites together.
- Au Naturel Health and Beauty showed there's always a healthy, organic option.
- CVS added a second location when it moved into the old Stop & Shop storefront.
