SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – Ramona Murphy has always been interested in exercise and nutrition, but she knows how difficult it can be to meet your own goals.
The Sleepy Hollow resident says she has also experienced weight fluctuations and periods where she didn't take care of her body.
“One day I woke up, and I was like 'I need to take control of my life. This is not what I want,'” she said. “So I decided to start walking, start exercising and start eating better.”
Murphy was able to lose 75 pounds and says she found a better, more active life. Today she works as a holistic health coach to help others create their own happy, healthy lives.
“It's basically helping people meet their health and fitness goals, whether they want to increase their energy, whether they want to exercise more, if they want to lose weight or help their relationships,” she said.
Murphy works closely on nutrition issues, having been trained at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. She also will go out exercising with clients and helps them find ways to slowly integrate changes into their lifestyle, which she says can add up over time.
Murphy earned a counseling degree about six years ago and initially worked in human resources in the corporate world. But a love of nutrition and fitness made her think she could combine her hobbies and education to help others.
Today she says her clients also inspire her.
“The more I see them change, the more I feel 'Wow, this is the right career for me,” she said.
