TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Fair trade items, and ones made by local and regional artisans are the hallmark of a new gift shop that opened in Tarrytown in September.
The owner, Ona Cohn, is a graduate of Fashion Institute of Technology. After graduation, while living in New York City, she designed lingerie for larger companies for nearly 20 years.
She then moved to Westchester and opened a dress shop in White Plains to sell one-of-a-kind clothing designs."
It was a "nice change" for Cohn from working for big companies where you have to "please thousands."
Ten years ago, Cohn became involved with a shop that personalized designs and discovered she liked retail.
The business was about fair trade and local artists, and Ona expanded on after she took it over seven years ago.
The new shop offers one-of-a-kind home and fashion made these various artisans. Many of the items are made in America.
The store is located at 53 Main St., Tarrytown, N.Y. To contact the store, call 914-514-8981.
