Moe's Southwest Grill opened in the Cortlandt Town Center at 3089 East Main Street on Thursday, Jan. 15. The grand opening doubled as a celebration for franchise partner Jonathan Trager's grandmother, Gussie Kavanaugh, who turned 100 on Jan. 18.

Kavanaugh gave the first 50 guests a free burrito each week for a year and, as she's done for all of her grandson's restaurants, she cut the ribbon to commemorate the grand opening.

This is Trager's 12th Moe's location in New York. He is currently staying in Peekskill as he opens and oversees the new restaurant.

"We want to welcome you," County Legislator John Testa, who represents Peekskill, Cortlandt and Yorktown said at the opening. "This is a great business. Thank you for choosing Cortlandt."

Trager said he loves the area and has a lot of family in the region."I love passing through here," Trager said.

Moe's serves burritos, quesadillas and burrito bowls with free chip and salsa. The restaurant also offers options for kids, vegetarians, vegans and those with Celiac disease.

The restaurant plays music from deceased artists and takes pride in its food, offering all natural grass fed steak with no added hormones.

"Our guacamole is made fresh in-house daily," Trager said.

Moe's already looks to be a hit. On Jan. 15, more than 250 people stood in line before the store opened.

Perhaps that's because, along with the thoughtfully-made food, Trager and his team are all about giving back. Before the restaurant officially opened, the eatery held a fundraiser for Lakeland Athletics, raising $7,000. Another fundraiser is scheduled for Peeskill the week of Jan. 19.

"We're all about supporting the community," said Trager.

Moe’s is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, call (845) 603-6888 or visit www.moes.com.
