TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – A new Tappan Zee Bridge means more construction jobs are coming.

State officials and contractors have scheduled several forums and job fairs for the coming weeks to discuss employment opportunities with the bridge's construction.

The Greenburgh Public Library will host Brian Conybeare, Gov. Andrew Cuomo's special advisor for the new Tappan Zee Bridge, and Kelly MacMillan, the designated person on employment for the project, on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

The proposed Tappan Zee Bridge includes two parallel spans between Westchester and Rockland counties. Preliminary testing for construction will begin in March, with dredging to follow in August. State officials said the northern span of the bridge should be finished by 2016, with demolition of the old bridge and construction of the southern span to end by 2018.

State officials and contractors also discussed upcoming job fairs during Monday's public design-build forum . Although times and venues have yet to determined, job fairs will be held in Westchester and Rockland counties on March 6 and 7. A forum for disadvantaged, minority and women-run businesses will take place on Feb. 14 and 15, and business-to-business forums will take place on April 23 and 24.
